The ‘Mad’ Maldon Mud Race 2007

Mad, stupid, crazy, foolish and barmy were just a few words used by my nearest and dearest to describe my decision to enter the Maldon Mud Race.  Together with Tom (Sarah's boyfriend) we dressed up as Batman and Robin.  See the pictures below. The two costumes were designed and made by my wife Sue, and daughters Jennie and Sarah.

It is definitely not for the faint hearted, as it is one of the more exhausting things I have ever done. Of the 181 competitors, I managed to finish at number 78, while Tom roared ahead to come in at  very respectable 11th place.  I was very pleased to have completed the race and, without being "helped" to the finish line. This was my worst fear. After all , I did not want to ruin Batman's heroic reputation!!

It took me about an hour to recover from the rigors of the race due to the constant effort required to move through very sticky and unforgiving Maldon Mud. It also took me about an hour to rid my self of the Maldon Mud and its interesting aroma!

A very big THANK YOU to all the people who put their hands in their pockets to sponsor me in this event. When all the pledged money has been collected and handed over to the organisers, I will post the total amount raised by you all onto this site.

The total Sponsorship money raised by Tom and Myself and sent to the organisers was £291:62

Will I do it again next year? I don't yet know, but watch this space !!

Batman and Robin before the start of the race

                                    Tom beating the unforgiving mud

Robin powering to the finish line

Stuck in the mud at the top

Batman (me) Down the mud slide and the on the way to the line

I'm Very tired  here, but still very determined to finish the race

At last I escaped the clutches of the mud

I'm finally out of the mud and on the home straight

                                                          Almost there

Batman just makes it to the finish!

Hardly home and dry, but pleased to be back and out of the mud, and ready for the waiting cool  and refreshing shower !
