                        COGS in Bruges 2017

 

                        A selection of the different types of shell used in ww1 

 These shells contained TROTYL or trinitrotoluene a highly explosive yellow material 

The 1000's of lead balls here are about the size of a malteaser these were loaded into

 a large shell which then air burst over the enemy. 

While walking in a farmers field in Bruge I found 3 of these lead balls in the previous

picture, plus a piece of shrapnel. These 4 items have been in the ground for 100 years ...!

                                    There are still 100's if not 1000's more
